Betaine helps to maintain normal metabolism and normal fluid balance, because imbalance in metabolism and fluid balance can cause damage to the liver and intestinal tissue.
Heat stress in pigs develops when the temperature in the pig barn exceeds the temperature within the pig's comfort zone and this has a negative effect on the energy conversion, feed intake, milk production, and the electrolyte balance of the body.
At high humidity sows can suffer from heat stress as low as 15°C.
